I still think the four-cylinder cars are neat.
I don't remember exactly what generation to look for, but if you look hard enough, you can still find one or two four-cylinder Camaros fitted with a manual transmission and the 1LE package.

Mustang versus Camaro. Which is better? Up for debate, for sure, but Sam Strano of Strano Performance Parts offers a compelling case for the sixth-gen Camaro SS 1LE.
“Comparing the Camaro to the Mustang Mach 1 or Shelby GT350, it’s easier to get 95% out of the Camaro right out of the box,” Sam explains. “It’s Porsche-level …

In reply to Colin Wood :
That would be the 6th gen. It was they only generation that had 1LE versions in non V8 cars. Both the 2.0 Turbo and the V-6. Sadly they are kind of bastard children in competition settings, no real home for them where they can excel.
The 6th Gen Camaro is a great package right out of the box, especially the 1LE. Our ZL1 was bonkers fast, and incredibly capable, though if I had it to do over I probably would go with the SS 1LE. The downsides are high consumable costs (brakes/tires) and a helmet usually doesn't fit through the window opening.
I absolutely love my 1LE, and I was fortunate enough to win my class in my local autox club this year. Hopefully next year I can try out some other regional events and continue to improve.
FYI - the article has incorrect sizes listed for the stock tires. The tires are 285/30/20 front and 305/30/20 in the rear.
Worth considering the LT1 model (yes, its also the name of the engine and dangerously close to the 1LT trim level) which came out in 2019. Consider it the spiritual successor to the 5.0 LX foxbody - a very basic, but fundamentally good sportsmuscle car that is more oriented for street use. Its essentially a V6 base model car with the SS drivetrain, base SS suspension, front Brembos and clutch 3.73 LSD, but lacking the coolers, wider rear tires and rear Brembos. They were almost completely unadvertised but occupy a nice $25k to $35k spot in the used market.
Bought mine in Jan '24 and I drive it 200 miles a week as a daily. Zero regrets, just shop smart and be aware the automatics have exacerbated lifter issues due to the AFM system. Also, put an IGLA anti-theft system on it, they're very easy to steal and always at risk.
I bought a 2016 1LT V6 with a manual transmission. 335hp, 288tq, with a LSD. My personal best at Bradenton is 13.90 @ 100mph in the quarter mile. The redline is 7k It’s been through several track days at Sebring, and when I drive down the highway, it’s a decent ride while nailing down 32-33mpg. The best 50 mile mpg average is 36.
The upgrades are tremendous for my car. Between the 1LE, the SS, and the Cadillac ATS-V, it’s virtually plug and play with brakes, suspension and bracing.
People complain about the helmet thing, but if you’re hitting anything hard enough to have to go out the window, the curtain side airbags are going off and you’re not going out that way for a bit anyways. After the bags blow their covers off, there’s room in the Camaro opening. Watching the NHTSA crash videos, the Camaro door is much more likely to still open over the Mustang.
For around town, the 4 cylinder cars are probably the better car. My dad had a 2019 2.0t, and it didn’t feel all that much slower than my V6, and it got even better fuel mileage.

Corrected. Thanks for the heads-up!
The SS 1LE is insanely good. The only thing we did with ours was add camber plates from Vorshlag. We tried a square setup but all that did was delay when you can get on the gas. The car is also really good on the Goodyears. Fantastic cars.
Sorry, late to the party and late to to any info, but why does the that Camaro have the bathtub bunker window thing going on? For air bag stuff or just to look good?

When people first get into my Camaro, I tell them welcome to the bunker.
The V6 with the 10-speed auto is all kinds of fun at track days. I added regular ZL1 take-off wheels to my 2020 RS and I agree the original Goodyears are a fantastic tire, regardless of motor. The thing sticks like glue and the automatic cracks off shifts while the V6 is screaming all the way to redline. What a time to be alive!
