$38.5 million? Who has that kind of money? While a white Ferrari 250 GTO headlined the sales at Mecum Kissimmee this year, there were several under-the-radar cars that gaveled for much fewer Benjamins. Here are my favorite 10 lots that sold for less than $10K.

2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Convertible
$3300

Remember when Mitsubishi sold cool cars–or any cars for that matter–here in the U.S.? The Mitsubishi Eclipse was one of those, and this droptop version sold for just a few thousand.

1966 Ford Mustang Coupe
$8800

Hear me out on this one. Yes, it’s an automatic. And, it’s got the six-cylinder engine. But will it still turn heads while cruising around? Probably.

1993 Porsche 968
$9900

The 944 that sold for the least amount at Mecum? $17,325. Instead, turn your attention to its successor, the 968. It’s still got a stick and it’s still a Porsche.

1992 Dodge Spirit R/T Sedan
$8800

One of just 31 examples in silver. Two rare codes as a “Reliability Test Vehicle” and “Field Vehicle.” This has collectability written all over it for the most dedicated of Mopar enthusiasts.

1980 Ford Pinto Custom
$8250

File this under unusual. Nevertheless, a smaller Ranchero kind of sounds appealing, doesn’t it? The Pinto-based build even has a 302 V8 under its hood.

1992 Dodge Daytona Shelby R/T
$8800

Can’t afford a Shelby Cobra or Mustang? You might be able to gather up enough cash for a Shelby Dodge Daytona. This one has been “restored to original condition.”

1977 Datsun 710 Sedan
$9350

You probably won’t see this at your local cars and coffee–and its odometer reads just 34,380 miles.

2005 Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6
$7150

A two-seater with a supercharged V6 capable rated for 330 horsepower. ’Nuff said.

1974 Saab Sonett III
$2200

The futuristic angular lines of the Saab Sonett makes it stand out, along with its unique V4. While selling for just a tick over $2000, Mecum warns this example has sat for a while and will need recommissioning to hit the road again.

2003 Dodge Neon SRT-4 Sedan
$8800

The SRT-4 etched itself in the memories of many performance car enthusiasts–and they’re becoming rarer by the day. The bright yellow of this example makes it pop even more.

I'll take the custom Pinto truck for sure, though I'm intrigued by the low price for a 968. I feel like that's a lot of Porsche for not a lot of money. (And it has a V8)

EDIT: I have mistaken the 968 with the 928. Carry on.

Stop.  It.

I already own far too many vehicles...(off to FBMP I go!).

Shame on you!

I think that you are mistaking the 968 (inline 4) with the 928 (V8).

In reply to Colin Wood :

The Pinchero would be high on my list.

The 968 was a really good price but I'd be driving in a panic the whole time wondering when something bad is going to happen the the engine.

In contract the Pinchero would run like steaming dog pile forever without ever leaving you stranded. Also there are loads of suspension upgrades for Pintos you could make it handle decent.

Indeed I am. Thank you for catching that.

Personal aside, my first car was the Plymouth version of the Dodge Spirit R/T. The Plymouth had the six-cylinder, and plenty of power, but wasn't much of a handling type of car. I've always wondered how the Spirit R/T would compare.

Wait, is that two Mopars with the 2.2 DOHC motor? That would be rare enough at a major Mopar show.

Yeah, I was impressed with the list of Mopars for under $10K.

Thank you for posting about these cars.  Affordability is relative, but I am much more interested in these truly affordable cars that were built to a price point, offered a measure of fun and interest, and were generally used by their owners and not purchased as male costume jewelry.
