What goes like an early Miata but looks like a Lotus 7? This Mitsuoka Zero1.

Mitsuoka, a Japanese company that famously grafts old-school-looking body panels onto modern cars (its recent offerings include a Civic that looks like a Dodge Challenger and a RAV4 styled to resemble a K5 Blazer), created the Zero1 by combining the iconic shape of a Lotus 7 with the powertrain from a Japanese-market Mazda Miata.

This particular example shows fewer than 13,300 kilometers–about 8300 miles–on its odometer.

Find this 1996 Mitsuoka Zero1 for sale at Duncan Imports & Classics, with an asking price of $23,333.

I saw a couple of their RAV4 things while I was in Japan recently. Like these. Odd things.

That actually seems like a decent deal, especially from Duncan. The idea of an airbag steering wheel in that, does make me chortle a bit though.

That is a good deal. Most are going for closer to 30K Interesting car. I would be a little scared of parts availability. 1600 LBS with a 1.6L motor. Should be a lot of fun.

I really didn’t need a reminder that they still have this car, especially when I’m already frustrated with my current fleet.

Any SCCA tech gurus able to opine if that rollbar is good enuff for HPDE?

Hmm. If it is actually a 1.6, I think that would make it the 90hp 1.6 that the US never got. Some countries in Europe did because inswearance regulations and I think Japan did as well.

In reply to BoxheadTim :

That looks like a 1994-97 1.8 to me. CAS on the exhaust cam, raised letters on the valve cover, correct thermostat neck.

This is the JDM 1.6 of that era. Same thermostat neck, CAS on the intake, sunken letters on the valve cover.

Did the NB ever get the 1.8 in the home market or did they exclusively get the B6?

From what I can tell, the B6 got all of the later improvements that the BPs got except for variable valve timing, at the end they were 125hp.

There was a time when eBay was flooded with $1000 NB B6 engines, with transmission.
