A big debut on April 1–that has to be a joke, right?

On Wednesday, April 1,” the press release starts, “Hyundai will unveil a major world debut during a press conference at the 2026 New York International Auto Show.”

While the first day of April is normally reserved for shenanigans, Hyundai assures us that this announcement is no joke:

At any rate, we won’t have to wait long to see what Hyundai is up to, as the press conference–and accompanying live stream, available to watch on Hyundai's YouTube Channel–takes place from 9:55 a.m. to 10:20 a.m. Eastern on April 1.

Any guesses as to what Hyundai will unveil?

My gut says new SUV/crossover (or maybe a new trim level for an existing SUV/crossover), but my heart wants to believe it's some kind of body-on-frame truck or something off-roady.

Based on the date, I assume something not so big. Matchbox sized toys?

What can we learn from the video itself? Well, for one thing, it flies. We know that. And second, it will be made from black granite. Finally, it will be roughly cube-shaped. So I expect a flying granite cube EV.

There's still a marketing department who hasn't learned that April 1 is kind of a lousy time for product releases?

They're going to use quality materials for the interior?  They're going to figure out suspension damping?
