Mazda doesn’t show a 2026 Miata on its site, so we reached out.

Why is the Mazda MX-5 Miata stuck in 2025 on the Mazda website? Does it mean? I mean, could it be? Just maybe, maybe is a new generation of Miata on its way?

Will it look like the latest Vision X-Coupe?

Will it have a rotary? Will it be a hybrid? Will it be all electric?

Will it come in Sunburst Yellow again?

Okay, let’s breathe.

We asked Mazda what the deal is–and they had a simple explanation.

Mazda doesn’t start production on its Miatas until typically this time of year. Details for the 2026 Mazda MX-5 Miata will be released in a few weeks. Don’t expect any major changes–just more of the same great ND Miata, they say.

Maybe a few new colors.

No word on Sunburst Yellow, though.

I'm cool with another year of the same as long as it means an icon of the sports car world stays alive.

Certainly, there's an alternate reality where the Miata was turned into a crossover–alongside the reality in which Mazda made the Miata front-wheel-drive instead of rear-wheel-drive.

The ND still turns my head. Not saying the others don’t, but Mazda nailed the look of the ND.

Quoting for emphasis, since these are all the same thoughts I had as soon as I read the title.

Fortunately, such changes would be really out of character for Mazda.

For a little behind-the-scenes, Mazda’s media site doesn’t mention the 2026 Miata yet, either.

I suspect there is some adjustment of paths going on.  The electric vehicle mandate was likely a huge concern with the Miata.  That is gone, but might return?  What to do.  I suspect they at least have the ability to get out one more generation of gas only Miata’s(?)

According to AI they are still available in Sunburst Yellow as well.
