My 1972 240Z weighs 2300# with low gas and no driver.
This number blows me away - unfortunately I don’t fit into a Miata very well.

The Miata may be the answer to all questions, but that answer doesn’t quite explain how much one weighs.
To answer that question, then, it’s time to put one on our Intercomp SW777RFX Wireless Professional Scale System with a full tank of gas.
In this case, it’s a Miata 35th Anniversary Edition model–the same one we tested against the latest Subaru BRZ tS–which Mazda says carries a curb weight of 2366 pounds.
But what do the Intercomp scales say? Lock in your guess now before scrolling further.
2352 pounds, just 14 pounds shy of the factory specs.
That’s pretty spot on if you ask us.

Is this the lightest "normal" car for sale in the US? I thought I read that now that the Mitsubishi Mirage is no longer sold, the ND is the new king of lightness. This would exclude weird stuff like the Ariel Atom and BAC Mono, which you can't just pop down to the local dealership and buy.
I used to create 3D printed metal frames for partials and dentures. Uses powdered metal and a laser. Compared to the lost-wax and casting method vs the new 3D printed metal frames, the printed frames are a featherweight. Almost feels like carbonated metal, if there is such a thing. You can run over it with your car and not damage them.
I wonder how much lighter cars will get if they start getting printed...
Good on Mazda! Pretty much as advertised and actually a touch lighter than they report… “under-promise and over-deliver” is rarely a bad business strategy.
edit: and damn, I love that interior/exterior color combo and wheels.
From our database - we haven't added the '22 RF to it yet. ST means soft top.
2016 GT ST
2328
52.1% front
2016 Club ST (brembo/BBS package)
2313
52.3% front
Fiat Classica
2412
54.0% front
2017 GT RF
2421
50.7% front
19' GTS RF (top up)
2430
50.7% (top up)
50.4% (top down)
24 GT ST
2346
52.2% front
While the Fiat and the RFs weigh almost exactly the same, the extra 100 lbs over the soft top Miata is completely over the front axle of the Fiat and 85% over the rear axle of the RF.
Also, note that a 2016 and a 2024 GT soft top are within 18 lbs of each other. That's pretty good for 8 years, especially considering the 2024 GT has an LSD while the 2016 had an open diff.
Mazda already had the best red in the business and then they came out with an even better one. Yowsa

It’s called Artisan Red Metallic, and it just glows.
You can get it on a CX-90, too.
If you want to know what colors will be available on the Miata, just look at the SUVs. Sigh.
Still, I guess if Mazda wants to save money on the Miata platform, reusing all the paint engineering is not a bad way to go. I just wish they had more fun colors - this new red is less fun than Soul, even if it is pretty. It's too grown up for a toy car.
This 2023 chart makes the situation look better than it is, as Classic Red was never offered on an ND in the US nor was that wicked tree frog green NC. It's also missing Prothetic Limb Mica from last year and oversells the Eternal Blue which is darker in real life. It also doesn't show production numbers - that orange ND was a very low production model as were most of the dark blue NAs. A heat map of colors vs sales per generation would be interesting. Hmm.
