That's pretty cool

Mercedes-Benz’s answer to the BMW M3 Sport Evolution during the early 1990s? The 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II. The Evo II won two manufacturers’ titles in DTM competition. Now more than 30 years later, HWA looks to rekindle those rad vibes with three Evo.R entries in the Nürburgring 24 Hours.

The HWA pro/am lineup includes Sebastian Asch and Luca Ludwig, the sons of Evo II DTM racers Roland Asch and Klaus Ludwig. Three-time Nürburgring 24 Hours winner, Markus Winkelhock, will also man the controls. The trio of cars will compete in the SP-X special vehicle class.

Interestingly enough, while best known for its success in DTM, the Evo II never competed in the Nürburgring 24 Hours back in the day.

I’m less enamored with the Ring 24 after they told the Twingo it wasn’t cool enough to run. I actually thought it would be a good GRM story because it was truly grassroots.

Thanks for bringing this into the discussion. It definitely is the embodiment of GRM.

Oh this is horsepoop. "Not what the N24 wants to attract." Because the organizers know it'll be the fan favorite. I bet if Zak Brown wanted to enter a Twingo, they'd be okay with it.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the N24 organizers are being more restrictive of entries after the Dacia Logan got plastered by a GT4 Cayman in 22(?):

edit after reading statement:
I can see how they’re tweaked about getting initial approval; then having it revoked. I’m not on FB any more, so I dunno how things are playing on Dale’s BtG site, and if there’s more behind the scenes info. But, again, I can see how the Logan crash… even though their initial ask was well after you’d think that change would happen… would be influencing this.
There may also be a general “shift upwards” happening across motorsports right now? (re: ClubSpec Cayman, PIR data sale, private tracks being built, etc?)
In reply to Keith Tanner :
The process of getting a car ready to race seems quite arcane and opaque in Germany there. I read a couple of their posts and there are references to inspections before they even start building the car!
