That's a funky design on the wheels.

Secret confession time: I love big, opulent luxury sedans.
I might have grown up on Civics, Miatas and Subarus, but I always enjoy my time behind the wheel of the latest Benz, BMW or Lexus. Presence, power and performance. The longer the hood, the better.
The market has been changing, though.
The latest Benzes have lost that special feeling–fewer buttons and knobs that precisely click, more cold touch pads devoid of personality.
BMW’s latest large sedans? First, well, the looks. The latest 7 lineup just doesn’t have it. Full stop.
What about Cadillac, supposedly the world standard? I just got out of one, and to be totally honest, some of the buttons and knobs just look and feel cheap. And this is on a $132,000 Escalade.

Whenever I drive a Genesis, though, I am happy. Buttons that click with authority–like in a ’90s Toyota–and often seem machined from a chunk of aluminum.
Even though the center stack involves touch screens as well as buttons and knobs, everything works logically. I never felt the need to consult the owner’s manual.
CarPlay instantly synced.
The looks are distinctive yet classy, both inside and out. It’s not showy or flashy. I’d call it timelessly restrained, like a good suit.

And the driving experience? Smooth engine, smooth transmission, smooth ride. Love that twin-turbo, 3.5-liter V6. Ditto the eight-speed automatic. (No, it doesn’t need a manual box.)
A 2-hour drive in the Genesis G80 takes only an hour.
Come again?
It simply hides the miles. It’s comfortable, effortless. Unlike other cars–cough, Alfa Giulia, cough–nothing ever got annoying.

Nearly 80 large is a bit of change, but here’s the kicker: I expected the sticker for our G80 to come out even higher. If we live in an age of $100,000 Infinitis, then $80K for a Genesis G80 seems like today’s deal.
I guess they aren't offered anymore, but the G90 used to have some pretty funky wheels, too (in a good way):

Somewhat related: I think it'd be fun to buy some sort of V8-powered Genesis model from a few years ago since they aren't too expensive nowadays.
