We’re not talking about tracks here, we’re talking about turns. We’re talking about those momentary flashes of brilliance–or frustration–that stick with you for the rest of the lap, even while you’re trying to focus on the other dozen or so corners you need to worry about. Or they give you butterflies during the tow there. Or they put a smile–or …

I know that Daytona isn't the most technical of race tracks, but I'm always amazed that there aren't more incidents, especially at the Rolex 24, involving cars totally missing the braking zone going into turn one.

Also, that turn where as a 12 year old, you drop an f-bomb for the first time when your mother is in the room, and she whips an about face holding a flip flop in her hand.

Quite life changing.

FWIW, there's usually one or two SFR SCCA road race events at Laguna every year, so GridLife isn't the only club-level opportunity to race down the Corkscrew.  Lucky Dog runs there as well, albeit with limited entries and a lottery.

I want to see a nascar cup race using the road course, but without the back straight chicane and using the non-restricted ~670 hp engine.

That would be wild, especially entering Turn 1.

as a west coast racer, i was surprised, but glad, to see thunderhill raceway on there!  the bypass is most definitely a pucker-inducing turn in the best of ways.

however, i can't believe that T10 at sonoma raceway wasn't included.  that's a terrifying turn with nothing but walls to reward you for doing it incorrectly...  nice list, tho!  :)

While I have yet to drive any of those legendary courses, I'd have to put in a mention for my former home track - Road America.

Turn 7 can be an adventure, especially in the morning when the dew hasn't burned off the concrete patch at the apex.

Turn 13, especially before the tunnel, was eminently satisfying to get right. Particularly when you were aiming at the Mitchell bridge concrete abutment on turn in.

And of course the Kink!  Is there a more pucker inducing corner for any novice group?  I watched Katherine Legge loose her rear wing on entry and the aftermath.  And when I was an instructor, having seen several events where students with more car than capability go home on a flatbed.

Cant forget about the Kink on the backside of Road America.  The legend of going Flat out through the kink was always the talk when I was a kid.

Great list. Regarding Sebring's Turn 17, what is this perfect line he speaks of? On the Nordschleife which I have only driven virtually, I find the famous Carousel the hardest corner to nail at speed, but it sounds like it is less fan-friendly than the one cited.
