Before you even ask, we’ll answer that question for you: Yes, it is a Supra.

Got that out of your system? Good, because we have a different question to answer today: How much does it actually weigh?

According to Toyota, an auto-equipped Supra Final Edition–like the one we were given to drive and review–has a curb weight of 3411 pounds. (Or 3389 pounds if you go for the manual.)

How close is that figure to the car’s real-world weight? To find out, we filled up the Supra Final Edition with a full tank of gas and placed it on our Intercomp SW777RFX Wireless Professional Scale System.

Drum roll, please.

Actual weight? Our scales show 3401 pounds, which is just 10 pounds shy of what’s listed on the spec sheet.

I know if has a "conventional" auto with the ZF8, but I was expecting a larger weight difference.

I guess I just used to seeing the weight differences of the BMW DCTs when I had the 135. Those things are insanely heavy for a transmission.

FWIW I'd be willing to get the "auto" if:

it got my gal into it - probably not gonna happen.  or

it was worth it lap times in autocross - quite possibly worth it.  Unfortunately I don't fit into one.

Saying this from the position of never having purchased an automatic/DCT/anything else than manual, personally.

Those Supras are smoking fast, m/t or auto.   A buddy needed to get his wife her new Z4 M40i and they had to drive the Supra so that she would know what it felt like in auto before they put in the special order (no z4m40i available in automatic locally).  She is very happy now with the Beemer.

I don't like modern BMWs, but I won't call it a travesty because there's no denying these things are very competent with either transmission, punching way above their weight. And it catches my eye every time I see one, except this one has way too many "aero" add ons for my taste.

It also probably weighs less or the same as the early 90s Supra. That's impressive given the weight of modern cars.

A DCT is two transmissions in one!

I am pretty sure that the DSG in my GTI weighs significantly more than the (designed for V8s) six speed auto in my Volvo... and transverse twin clutch units have the weight benefit of being able to have two different pinion gears on the ring gear.  A longitudinal DCT must have some other way of resolving two separate geartrains back to a single output shaft.
