Proof that the kids are alright? Look no further than the student teams that entered to compete in our Grassroots Motorsports $2000 Challenge Presented by Tire Rack, Powered by AutoBidMaster and Built by Carlyle Tools.
This year’s event saw six student teams arrive to race: Georgia Tech’s Wreck Racing, University of Cincinnati’s Budget Bearcat Motorsports, Kennesaw State University’s Night Owl Racing and University of Alabama’s Motorsports at UAH entered under-budget cars, while Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s ERAU Motorsports and University of North Florida’s Osprey Racing raced their respective FSAE cars.
Wreck Racing proved to be the fastest of the non-FSAE student teams, placing second overall and winning the top prize for a student team, with Budget Bearcat Motorsports placing eighth, Nigh Owl Racing in 12th and Motorsports at UAH in 15th.

For the pair of FSAE teams, ERAU Motorsports would prove to be the faster of the two, scoring the award for fastest FSAE student team.

In reply to Jerry From LA :
I don't think I've ever seen one enter it.
Wheel base isn't the concern, they are usually geared for autox and the acceleration event for FSAE is usually 100 meters? (I may be off on that distance.) They just all around aren't built for it

^this. I think I hit the rev limiter in top gear at a Pro Solo in my FSAE car one year. You'd likely top out by the end of the 1/8 mile.

QuasiMofo (John Brown) said:If anyone knows anyone that can help out that University of Alabama Huntsville team, they are AMAZING kids and need to get a bit of help with a shop and maybe a mentor.
I shared your thought with my local contact in that area.
QuasiMofo (John Brown) said:BTW those kids at UAH are awesome. I hope that others got to talk to them.
I didn't interact with them, unfortunately. Which car were they with?
The UAH team actually sort of owed their genesis to Wreck a bit. UAH had originally purchased the Sentra as an ex-circle track car that they were going to build as an autocross car. One of the UAH principles met a Wreck Racing member at Road Atlanta and they got to chatting, and the Wreck guy was like "Oh you need to build that as a Challenge car" and the rest is history.
