At 14,000 feet above sea level, the rarified air contains approximately 40% less oxygen than at sea level. As hard as that might be for a person attempting to climb a mountain, imagine how hard it is for a car.

That’s a large part of why the wild machines that show up to compete in the legendary Pikes Peak International Hill Climb often boast massive power figures–to combat the altitude-induced power loss.

And, boy, does this 1967 Chevrolet Camaro, built by Mike DuSold, have a sizeable power figure: More than 1200 horsepower from the car’s turbocharged LS V8 engine.

Pikes Peak veteran Robin Shute piloted the Camaro to a fifth-in-class finish and ninth overall in 2025, but, on October 22, it’ll be competing for a different kind of award with DuSold behind the wheel, the title of Ultimate Track Car in our Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge Presented by Grassroots Motorsports.

Our search for the fastest track machine on four wheels welcomes virtually any vehicle, so long as both car and driver can pass a safety inspection. If you can manage to pass that, register today.

Taking place at Eagles Canyon Raceway, our Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge will be joined by the lightning-fast cars of the Tire Rack SCCA Time Attack Challenge.

The Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge is presented by Grassroots Motorsports in association with WilwoodVitour TireCRC IndustriesVbox Motorsport and Red Line Oil, with trophies from BimmerWorldNine Lives Racing and Falken Tire.

I see Mike DuSold quite a bit when he's testing at COTA.  Always a good convo with interesting insights.  His shop does amazing work.

This car just keeps getting wilder every year.  And Mike knows Eagles Canyon quite well since his shop is not all that far away.

UTCC 2026 gonna be lit!
