Many media outlets are calling the new Grand Sport the sweet spot between a Stingray and a Z06. But that spot’s only as sweet as the price it will sell for. Now we know how much sugar we’ll need to add.

Grand Sport pricing starts at $86,000, according to Driven with Alan and Matick Chevrolet. The new Vette is $15,000 more than the $71,000 Stingray, but $32,900 cheaper than the $118,900 Z06.

Clearly, it’s a big jump between the Grand Sport and Z06, but not as much between the Stingray and Grand Sport. Add the desirable $5395 Z51 package to the Stingray, and that difference drops down to less than $10K.

The Grand Sport has options worth considering, too, including the Z52 Sport Performance Package, with better brakes and tires ($3500), and the Z52 Track Package, with carbon ceramic brakes, Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires, quad center exhaust and carbon fiber aero package ($20,695). Add the latter and you’re nearing Z06 territory.

So what do we get for the 15k cost delta between the GS and the Stingray? Can you get to GS performance by checking the right boxes on a base model Stingray? Z51, Z52, etc...

I don't think you'll be able to get the LS6 in the base Stingray.

Well I was wrong and apparently read the first releases wrong. I dunno man, but maybe this is an indication we have too many Corvette options now :)

if the base z51 is still available at discounts like the base is right now i think it'll be a bargain...  While I don't think you can get the track performance of a GS in a base model (due to the wide body giving you more rubber) i think the narrow body with the ls6, z51, and a square front/rear wheel setup is going to be a great track / weekend cruiser.

that being said looking at the value delta between the GS and base model for the c6 and c7 the GS models tend to hold their values well enough that you wouldn't be burning cash if you went to the GS.  Also like most corvettes, after the initial rush in the first year subsequent models will be offered at MSRP or slightly under.

It's fairly close between a Z51 and GS, IMO. I'm not sure how much of a difference a wider body makes aero-wise (that probably comes with a weight penalty) and you do have the option for carbon-ceramic brakes.
